The Third Policeman by Flann O’Brien
This is a darkly comic novel about the nature of time death and existence, with many twists and turns and a very surprising ending. It begins with the main character killing a person for his life savings.
“I chose this novel because of the intriguing backstory: the author had failed to find a publisher and then claimed to have lost the manuscript. It was found and published after O’Brien’s death in 1966. The novel was mentioned during an episode of the TV series “Lost,” which greatly increased interest in O’Brien. I decided to read it for its atmosphere and plot.” -- Kathy
